Nothing wakes you up to start your day better than a good hot shower. The steamy hot water and a forceful spray get your blood flowing and make you feel alive and clean! Over a decade ago in the U.S., federal water saving regulations were enacted that applied to many things, including shower heads. If you have moved into a new home, or had your plumbing fixtures updated you may have noticed the irony. Your shower uses less water per minute, but you have to shower for twice as long to get clean. Although the intent of water saving legislation is admirable, the restriction is counterproductive when you have less than perfect water pressure. This issue was once even part of the storyline for the sitcom Seinfeld.
With regard to shower heads, the federal guidelines limit flow to a maxiumum of 2.5
gallons per minute at a standardized pressure of 80psi. You'll be surprised to know that
the average home's water pressure is 25% under the standard; registering at 60psi, and in some
homes the pressure is as low as 30psi! Most manufacturers adjusted existing shower heads
to comply and yanked the older models off store shelves. One company however, realizing
that not every household has perfect water pressure, engineered their shower heads with
the flow restrictor as a removable component part, for which the law allows. Therefore,
if you have wonderful water pressure you can leave the flow restrictor in place and have
a good shower. If you have average or poor water pressure, you can remove the flow
restrictor to unleash the full potential of the shower head. Of course, if you have
wonderful water pressure and remove the flow restrictor anyway, well, be careful where
you aim it! It will be powerful! The government mandated low flow shower heads
they did not mandate lousy flow shower heads. Thankfully, there is a brand of
shower head which you, the consumer, can easily adjust to match the pressure in your
home.
Of course as a manufacturer it would have been easier to produce a one-size-fits-all solution and mold everything as one piece. The savings in production costs multiplied by hundreds of thousands of sales would add up to a lot of money. Where would that leave you if you had water pressure at 40psi or 30psi? If you have bought a brand like that, you know what it feels like to have a shower that is 1 gallon per minute, or 1.25 gallons per minute. It feels lousy! There are other companies that might even sell you these ugly and expensive three-headed-contraptions where each shower head complies with the regulation. It solves your problem, but at what cost? $75 - $250 for something that is ugly, scares small children, and you're embarassed for people to see?
If you have been trying shower head after shower head, and can't understand why you aren't finding one that is any good, you just found out not only the answer to the question "why", but the shower head that will provide the solution. From now on you'll be starting your day in the right frame of mind, feeling right, feeling ready, feeling clean and feeling alive! If you have been searching for the shower head, look no further. This is the one. You will thank yourself every morning.
There are sixteen very attractive models to choose from, and every model complies with the federal standard of 2.5 gallons per minute at 80PSI. In the event that your water pressure is such that you need to unleash the full power, every model is equipped with a removable flow restrictor.
Enjoy!
